Mike Humphrey wrote:

Hi, guys —

I had been on a Church ministry for quite a while before I moved on to other ministries.
Recently I met up with one of the members that was on that ministry.

After a little conversation, she told me that she had other things she had to do, and on the way out, with a smile, to my surprise, she said that she was the Hospital Chaplain.

Hello! Have I missed something that happened in the Church or is she using a dissenting title within the Church. She told me she administers where and when priests work.

  • Can someone clarify this issue for me?

Mike

  { Can someone who is a non-ordained faithful Catholic call themselves a "hospital chaplain"? }

Eric replied:

Mike —

Lay persons are not permitted to use the title Chaplain.

From:

It is unlawful for the non-ordained faithful to assume titles such as "pastor", "chaplain", "coordinator", " moderator" or other such similar titles which can confuse their role and that of the Pastor, who is always a Bishop or Priest.
