Hi, guys! —
My classmates and I are doing research on
cannibalism.
- What view does the Catholic Church
have on cannibalism?
Thanks!

replied:
Hi, Gema —
The Church believes in the Resurrection
of the dead, therefore the bodies
of the dead should be respected.
Thus, any action such as cannibalism,
or the scattering of even cremated
remains,
is forbidden.
Beyond that, cannibalism is an act
against the natural law.

Hi, Gema —
Because John mentioned cremated remains,
I just wanted to comment on the Church's
position. To my knowledge, cremation
is allowed under only two conditions:
- That the cremated
person and family are not denying
the Resurrection, and
- That the remains,
as John stated, are not scattered,
but buried on land or at sea,
as
a whole, usually
in a small box or container.
