Taunia,
Usually when people join the Church,
they go through the Rite of Christian
Initiation for Adults, (RCIA) and
that involves a few Sundays of being
up in front of the congregation (but
with your back to them) and being
in front of the congregation at the
Easter Vigil when you are baptized
or make a profession of faith, perhaps
again, with your back being to the
congregation.
This is the ordinary
way. However, you can also be admitted
to the Church privately, though you
may need to take the classes with
the group that does RCIA, though
sometimes people take private instruction.
As for the wedding, that can be private
— you two, the priest, and
another witness you choose. Take
your problems to your pastor.
Seeing you may be preparing to take RCIA classes in the near future, I would encourage you to consider buying a cheap copy of the Catechism of the Catholic Church to learn everything we believe as faithful Catholics.
Under each boxed format for the Catechism you want, you will see, below the box, an option to buy a used version, which many times, is not really used but close to new.
God bless,
Mary Ann
